This discussion paper summarises results of the initial (pre-screening) applicability and suitability of the criteria for a European degree label as proposed in the call, their status as compulsory/optional criteria and definitions. The discussion is based on the results of a survey carried out in May 2023 which received 139 responses from 22 institutions in 10 European countries. The survey asked respondents to identify the level of suitability of each of the criteria and invited them to add observations and proposals for improvement. The results show that while none of the criteria are considered unsuitable (the lowest percentage of responses indicating “very suitable” or “quite suitable” for criteria classified as minimum requirements is 64% and for the optional criteria, 59.7%) there is a wide divergence of opinions regarding the applicability of the criteria, their status as compulsory or optional and the way they are expressed. This discussion paper reflects the main elements included by respondents in their answers.
